This collaborative modern folk art piece is carefully hand-crafted by artisans in the rainforests of Madagascar. It's name 'lalao' translates to 'playful', representing the carefree moments in life that inspire happiness. A one-of-a-kind piece, it is crafted from raffia plant fiber, cultivated mulberry silk cocoons, and Ceranchia wild silk cocoons - a species only found in Madagascar. Our fair trade partner, Tanana Madagascar works with the artisan group SEPALIM, a poverty alleviation organization in northeastern Madagascar. SEPALIM invests in local leadership and community led initiatives, and works to link artisans and farmers to global markets.
