Part of the limited edition Birds of Guatemala Collection from Mayan Hands, this handwoven lumbar pillow is inspired by the beautiful colors of the Grey-Throated Chat. Color blocks in navy, dusty periwinkle blue, and muted red are accented by geometric black and white randa embroidery. Finished with black backing. This statement handwoven pillow represents a collaboration between three talented groups of artisans. The colorblock textile is woven on a backstrap loom, the cinta tag accent is woven on a small pedal loom, and the geometric randa (traditionally found joining panels of corte, a woman's skirt) is hand-embroidered. Mayan Hands is a fair-trade nonprofit dedicated to providing economic and educational opportunities to Maya women and girls, so that they can build sustainable futures for themselves, their families and communities, as they continue to live within the culture they cherish.
