Embroidered Tree of Life Wall Hanging

This hand-embroidered wall hanging holds a dreamlike quality, adorned with colorful birds, monkeys and elephants. The border is embroidered with the text "Where dreams grow wild and beautiful and free." Artisans of St. Mary's Mahila Shikshan Kendra embroider this wall hanging in the tradition of the Kathiawadis, a craft more than a thousand years old. Founded by the Dominican Sisters following the closure of textile mills in the area, St. Mary's has provided job opportunities for local women for over 40 years. The income women earn has helped to educate a generation of children, many of whom have become the first in their families to attend college.
