Kalimbas, mbiras, karimbas, finger pianos...all are names for the same African percussion instrument from the Lamellophone instrument family. The kalimba is comprised of a hollow resonator, which vary from handmade boxes to calabash gourds, and metal tins. These rustic Kalimbas are created around a repurposed can. The Kalimba is held with both hands, and the recycled metal tines fitted with tin can buzzers are plucked to create an unmistakable African sound.
