Nesting Bluejay Felted Birdhouse

This felted birdhouse featuring a nesting bluejay will make the perfect home for a family of feathered friends. Pink flowers and a nest with eggs decorate the exterior. Small birds such as wrens, nuthatches or chickadees may use the house to nest and rest. Crafted from water-repellent sheep's wool, rain or snow will wick through the felt and air dry as the wool breathes. To create the birdhouses, artisans craft thick felt sheets by applying soap, water and pressure to unspun wool in a process known as wet felting. Embellishments are often added using a barbed needle to bind the wool and sculpt the fibers, a technique called needle felting.
